Da Vinci's Demons | The King's Speech
Tom Horton is the award winning Visual Effects Supervisor (and producer) in Season 3 of STARZ Original series "Da Vinci's Demons". His work on Season 2 of "Da Vinci's Demons" earned him the Royal Television Society Award for Best Effects (Digital) and an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role.
He was also the VFX Supervisor/Producer on the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Award winning feature film "The King's Speech".
Over the last 25 years he has worked internationally with award winning directors, designers, cinematorgraphers, and visual effects artists, producing VFX work for independent and studio feature film producers, broadcasters, production companies and multinational advertising agencies across the globe. In post-production, he has worked as a Creative Director, Head of Visual Effects and MD for various leading facilities in Australia, Singapore and the UK, and in production, he has produced and directed music videos, and commercials for major labels and international bands.
His career began in Sydney where he was Executive Producer/Co-owner of Red Ink Film Company one of Australia's leading commericial production companies. He then moved into VFX as Executive Producer at post production house AAV Digital Pictures. In 1997 he moved to Singapore where he was MD of VHQ Post Production, the largest VFX house in the South East Asia region, trading the company through the 1998 Asian financial crisis.
A move to London led to him becoming Head of VFX and a board member at post-production facility SVC, and he was part of the MBO team that successfully sold the company to Ascent Media.
Two years later he was approached to re-launch Saatchi & Saatchi's in-house content creation companies - Triangle Post Production, Vermillion Films, and Shell Like Radio.
Under Tom's lead as MD/Executive Producer all three companies produced work that went on to win awards at British Music Awards, BTAA, D&AD and Cannes Advertising Festival. In 2007, Tom seized an opportunity to fulfil a life long ambition to work in the feature film industry and joined BAFTA and Emmy Nominated VFX house Men-from-Mars as MD/Executive Producer.
He oversaw the sale of the company to an Indian media company, Century Communications, and it's merger into post-production company Molinare. where he executive produced major VFX productions including Solomon Kane, Ironclad, The Deep,I-Max released Flying Monsters 3D and multi award winning feature film "The King's Speech". He was then approached by Reliance (co-owner of Spielberg's DreamWorks Studios) to launch UK based VFX and 2D-3D conversion facilities for their Reliance MediaWorks division, and played a key role in closing a long term partnership deal with Academy Award winning VFX company Digital Domain.
At Reliance MediaWorks he produced VFX on several Hollywood studio pictures including GI Joe Retaliation, Conan the Barbarian, and Rock of Ages. He has also worked with companies in the US and UK on content creation for TV and film, and is represented by United Agents in the UK for this work. He currently has a number of TV Series and feature scripts in development in the UK and US.
